Valley Children's Hematology Clinic is seeking an experienced Charge Nurse to join its Pediatric Hematology Clinic team. As one of the leading pediatric cancer facilities on the west coast, our center serves as the only provider of pediatric oncology services between Los Angeles and the Bay Area. Valley Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center has consistently been in the top 5-8 percent worldwide in patient enrollments to the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), the world’s largest organization devoted exclusively to childhood and adolescent cancer research. As an active member of COG and a participant of many industry-sponsored clinical trials, we offer our patients access to 90 open protocols to treat the most common to some of the rarest pediatric cancer conditions. The Charge Nurse of Hematology is accountable for managing the overall operations of the ambulatory patient care clinic during assigned shift, possessing a strong foundation of leadership skills with abilities to direct nursing care provided by the staff.
Position Details and Responsibilities:
Provide oversight of clinic operations during assigned shift
Observe, evaluate and guide patient care provided by staff
Coordinate activities of the patient care unit, making staff assignments and assisting with the development and evaluation of staff members
Must demonstrate clinical skills such as accessing mediports, broviacs, and starting IVs
Possess excellent verbal, phone and written communication skills
Assist with the recruitment and hiring of staff, evaluation of current staff competency and assessment, coaching, and counseling assigned staff
This position practices within the scope of the Nursing Practice Act, and in accordance with Valley Children's policies
Requirements:
Graduation from a nursing program along with an active California RN license, Bachelor's degree (BSN is preferred)
Minimum two (2) years full time or equivalent nursing experience with pediatric experience preferred
1 or more years of Charge, Lead or Supervisory experience preferred
Basic Life Support (BLS) is required within 30 days of hire or transfer into the position.
Focused Pediatric Resuscitation (Valley Children's specific certification) required within 12 months of hire or transfer into position
