POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting Relationships The Assistant General Counsel - Ambulatory reports directly to Tenetï¿½s General Counsel and will have supervisory responsibility for the USPI Legal Team, a variety of legal specialists and other USPI law department support staff.

The Assistant General Counsel will be based at Tenetï¿½s corporate headquarters office in Farmerï¿½s Branch, Texas, which is in North Dallas. USPI is an experienced and trusted partner in some of the nationï¿½s most successful ambulatory surgical networks which is dedicated to providing high-quality, lower-cost ambulatory solutions for patients, physicians, health systems and those paying for the cost of health care services, such as employers, insurance companies and government programs. The Assistant General Counsel ï¿½ Ambulatory will provide leadership on all aspects of USPIï¿½s legal operations and serve as a trusted advisor to members of the senior USPI leadership team.
Specifically, the Assistant General Counsel - Ambulatoryï¿½s responsibilities include leadership of the USPI legal team members who review and analyze all arrangements between USPI facilities and other parties for compliance with Stark, anti-kickback and other fraud and abuse laws, EMTALA, HIPPA, antitrust laws, and any other regulatory requirements applicable to such arrangements.
The Assistant General Counsel ï¿½ Ambulatory is also responsible for leading the businessï¿½s legal acquisition team and working collaboratively with USPIï¿½s and Tenetï¿½s compliance personnel. The candidate must have exceptional leadership and communications skills and the ability to integrate the USPI ambulatory legal function to work seamlessly with the Tenet hospital legal function. Last, the Assistant General Counsel ï¿½ Ambulatory must have the ability to lead the highest levels of regulatory compliance and ethics and deliver results on a multitude of large-scale projects.
CANDIDATE EXPERIENCE, ATTRIBUTES AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Prior experience as a General Counsel for a healthcare provider company is preferred.
Prior experience within a large law firm is required.
At least ten years of experience in health care operations, regulatory law and transactions.
Subject matter expertise and experience in hospital and ambulatory surgery center operations law practice and working knowledge of health care regulations.
Experience in health care related drafting and transactional matters and knowledge of joint venture arrangements and structures.
Proven leadership and organizational skills with emphasis on collaborating with executive team members as well as development of individual talent within the USPI legal team.
Experience effectively managing a legal budget and overseeing the performance and expenditures with external counsel.
Must be extremely responsive to a high volume of requests and possess a strong customer service orientation, meticulous attention to detail, and strong initiative and integrity are essential.
Knowledge of working in a senior role in a publicly-traded company with experience in risk assessment and good judgment on when to escalate issues to the General Counsel and others in the parent organization.
Professional and Personal Attributes The candidate must also be comfortable working within a complex cross-matrix reporting structure and be able to communicate effectively inside and outside of the Legal Department.
Excellent problem solving skills and a pragmatic approach to resolving complex legal issues are required.
An effective digital communicator, as well as experienced in preparing PowerPoint presentations.
Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, coupled with the ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization, including top USPI executives and outside counsel.
This position will involve the handling of highly sensitive and confidential matters in a highly regulated and competitive industry. Good judgment skills and discretion are critical attributes.

Education/Certifications Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school with superior academic credentials is required. Current License and Bar Affiliation are also required.
Compensation A competitive compensation program will be tailored to the selected candidate. Base salary will be supplemented by a performance bonus and comprehensive, well-rounded benefits program, which includes relocation assistance.
Travel Approximately 30 percent (travel percentage represents a non-COVID environment).
