Department: Duke University Student Health Services Official Duke Job Title : Ambulatory Care Nurse Work Schedule: Remote work 8:00 AM- 8:00 PM
Nature of Responsibilities: Plan and provide professional nursing care and case management for patients through the REDCap system at Duke Student Health in accordance with provider orders and established policies and procedures.
Specific Duties and % of Effort
1. Assess, identify and address patient concerns at each encounter (in person and/or remotely), including but not limited to, patient concerns identified or otherwise determined through ongoing review of the REDCap system. Determine patient needs/concerns. Complete assessment as appropriate. Document acquired information/data concisely and appropriately in Electronic Medical Record in accordance with established guidelines.
Provide case management services arising out of concerns related to patients in isolation and/or quarantine by: assessing, identifying, and addressing ongoing patient needs;
Providing ongoing patient care and education services as appropriate;
Scheduling appointments based on patient acuity and needs while demonstrating appropriate clinical judgment;
Assisting patients with utilizing other resources within student health, university, medical center and community; Communicating with and contribute to the health care team as appropriate; and
Performing related services to patients in isolation and/or quarantine as directed by the head nurse. 85%
2. Administer vaccines/patient medications per provider order or standing order; administer and document medications and therapies according to established policies and procedures; document adverse reactions when they occur. 5%
3. Assist other nursing personnel in the delivery of patient care; provide direction and guidance in the proper use, care and control of material resources; appraise quality and effectiveness of nursing care and report results as well make recommendations to head nurse for improvement in the quality and effectiveness of nursing care given. 5%
4. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. 5%
Required Minimum Qualifications Education Work requires graduation from an accredited Bachelors of Science in Nursing, Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program. State of North Carolina licensure is also required. All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within five years of their start date.
Experience Requires 1 year of nursing experience
Additional Department Preferences
Experience in college health or an ambulatory care setting is preferred.
We are looking for nurses who can pay attention to detail, that can work independently, task oriented, and are self starters.
Candidate must be able to work on-site and remotely. Must be proficient in spreadsheet and database management.
