Learn more The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) for the Ambulatory Infusion Center (AIC) and Ambulatory Care Specialty Clinics at the Palo Alto Division (PAD) serves as an assistant with line authority to the unit nurse manager in providing leadership and direction to nursing staff. The Assistant Nurse Manager executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex client care. In addition, applies skills necessary to identify, coordinate, and/or identify discipline-specific education, as well as training in leadership, professional staff development and emerging needs, to all levels of staff. This Registered Nurse (RN) is a nurse supervisor and provides oversight for the administration of leave, counseling and disciplinary actions in collaboration with the Nurse Manager. Acts as the Nurse Manager during times of Nurse Manager absences. In collaboration with the Nurse Manager: 1. Responsible for administration and evaluation of program implementation, personnel management, and overall operations of the Specialty Clinics and the AIC unit. 2. Responsible for training and evaluation of competency of all staff assigned to Specialty Clinics and the AIC Unit. 3. Identifies quality improvement projects for Specialty Clinics and the AIC unit and demonstrates improvement in patient outcomes or resource utilization. 4. Ensures patient documentation and reporting requirements to VAPAHCS leadership staff and VISN staffs are complete and timely. 5. Collaborates with the Service Chiefs for Program Development, Quality Care, Performance Measures and Resource Planning. 6. Responsible for direct coordination of staffing, physical facilities, supplies and equipment for Specialty Clinic and the AIC Unit. 7. Ensures performance goals for Specialty Clinic and the AIC Unit are met, and required VISN/National reports are completed 8. Designs, modifies, and implements systems to ensure the cost-effective use of resources. Provides leadership in improving and sustaining the quality and effectiveness of services to patients, applying professional practice and the Joint Commission Standards in the management of the Specialty Clinics and the AIC Unit. 10. Responsible for ensuring continuity of care during emergency or disaster events. 11. Responsible for collecting, analyzing and reporting on performance improvement measures. 12. Participates in local, network or national committees and task forces. Assume direct patient care as needed, including but not limited to: 13. Care and management of the Oncology and Hematology patients which consist of 90% of the total patients served in the AIC. This includes, but is not limited to, infusion of chemotherapeutic agents, as well as the pre and post regimens ordered. 14. Obtains patient histories, obtains and evaluating lab results, administering medications, obtaining vital signs, and documentation of nursing care in VISTA/CPRS. 15. Assumes responsibility for continuous monitoring of the patient during the administration of the infusion therapy. 16. Working knowledge of VISTA / DHCP/BCMA, CPRS and Windows Outlook Computer Systems. 17. Demonstrates ability in critical thinking and flexibility. 18.
