Austin Cancer Center is seeking an experience Chemotherapy / Biotherapy Infusion Registered Nurse to coordinate and deliver nursing services to oncology patients in a clinic setting.
This position will be assigned to multiple clinic locations. Full time, Monday through Friday, day shift,(No evenings, weekends or holidays!*).
Main Job Functions •Administers chemotherapy, biotherapy, hydration, blood products, and other medications under the direct supervision of a physician, using correct medication/blood product, dosage/amount, route, time, and technique. •Facilitates dose modification by assessing patient, assessing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician regarding dosage modification, problems, and symptom management. •Performs venipuncture, accesses implanted ports, maintains central line catheter devices, and other related nursing procedures. •Assesses patients for changes in condition; including but not limited to: abnormal labs, x-rays, scans, drug reactions, and initiates appropriate action. •Performs and documents nursing assessments, patient education, triages phone calls, prescription refill requests, medication administration, and other interactions within the electronic medical record. •Communicates all pertinent information and any interventions to the physician. •Schedules and reschedules appointments for infusions and other nursing procedures. •Demonstrates knowledge of the use, documentation, maintenance, and cleaning of ambulatory infusion pumps. •Programs portable infusion pumps for continuous drug delivery and provides instruction to the patient and/or caregiver in the use of the pump at home. •Acts as a resource to Medical Assistants. •Assures preauthorization and appropriate consent forms are obtained prior to administration of therapies. •Captures billing codes for nursing services performed.
Minimum Education & Experience: •ASN Required; BSN highly preferred •Current RN license in the State of Texas •Minimum 2 year experience actively practicing as a Registered Nurse in an Oncology setting. •Chemotherapy / Biotherapy infusion experience highly preferred. •BLS Certification Required. ACLS certification preferred. •ONS Certified required or attain within 18 months of hiring. •OCN Certified – highly preferred. •Must have Chemotherapy / Biotherapy Provider certification. •Must be able to maintain appropriate professional composure in high stress situations.
