The Endoscopy Screening Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for care of adult patients scheduled for an Endoscopy procedure at all VHSO campuses. The incumbent uses critical thinking to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and deliver care. The Registered Nurse will triage consults, schedule procedures through the central scheduling office for Endoscopy, perform a thorough historical chart review, perform telephonic screening, document the chart review and telephonic screening in CPRS, provide patient education, and enter orders for applicable tests and bowel preps per the Endoscopy Screening Guidelines for Registered Nurses. The registered nurse will initiate telephonic and/or electronic consultation with a provider when patient care conditions are in question and not described in the guidelines. Incumbent provides nursing care for complex patients, independently carrying out all nursing functions within the ambulatory surgery unit and endoscopy as needed. The incumbent must fulfill the qualifications for Moderate Sedation nurse competencies. Incumbent is responsible for maintaining up to date all mandatory training and attending required in-services as well as maintaining current ACLS and BLS certification. The incumbent will possess effective communication skills and customer service practices. Duties include, but not limited to the following: Provides nursing care and interventions for patients having all types of Endoscopy procedures. Provides and anticipates needs for equipment/supplies in Endoscopy. Demonstrates knowledge, use, and interpretation of surgery and Endoscopy.
