The Licensed Practical Nurse (Radiology) functions as a member of the radiology team. The incumbent reports directly to the service chief or designee (who may be the chief tech or section supervisor). The incumbent will perform work in the Radiology department and in most patient care areas of the hospital. The incumbent meets the needs of customers while supporting the medical center and service missions as well as organization goals. The Licensed Practical Nurse (Radiology): Observes for and reports physiological and/or psychological deviations in acutely or chronically ill patients. Demonstrates basic knowledge in nursing care procedures and basic care of the acutely ill and chronic patients. Charts pertinent data regarding the patient's condition. Interviews patients to obtain information and/or communicate data regarding the patient. Initiates patient teaching regarding procedures, tests, medications, specimen collection, ambulatory aides, or care to be delivered in the hospital or at home. Identifies educational needs of patients and reinforces education that the patient has received. Recognizes medical and/or surgical emergencies and initiates appropriate response. Administers medication, including IVPB drugs per policy, and assesses the need for and administers PRN medications. Provides patient care while escorting the patient through the imaging process. Instructs the patient on the procedure to be performed and takes part in the post-procedure care of the patient. Schedules, transfers, and screens patient for safety reasons. Administers medications and starts IV's. Assists the radiologist and/or technologist in conducting imaging examinations and procedures. Provides emergency nursing care in urgent situations. Works safely in the MRI environment. Floats between multiple radiology sections including MRI, CT, Nuclear Medicine, ultrasound and general radiology. Cleans radiology, nursing equipment, and MRI rooms.
